WOODFORD FURNACE FESTIVAL 2020

The idea of the Woodford Furnace Festival was born from a passion for the old iron-making craft and a desire to revive this forgotten art using only sustainable, local resources. This unique event gathers together the best specialists from all over the world with the aim of re-introducing environmentally friendly, low carbon footprint production of iron. Over last two years we were able to successfully produce around 300 kg of Irish iron. In 2020 we are planning to make more of it and with the help of blacksmiths from the Irish Artists Blacksmiths Association  transform it into rare and beautiful objects! The Furnace Festival takes place from Sunday 23 till Sunday 30 of August 2020 in the picturesque village of Woodford, Co. Galway. The Festival is a great place for any curious person to

• Find out all about the forgotten skill of iron making 
• Follow international experts from the beginning to the end of the iron smelting process 
• Ask about iron smelting - there will be plenty of people happy to answer any questions 
• See accomplished artist blacksmiths forging iron into objects of art and practical use
• Observe charcoal-making techniques and ask Tim about the trees
• Take a free guided tour of Woodford 
• Visit the Woodford Heritage Center and see heritage and photo exhibitions
• Be enchanted by the sparks and a pure power of fire when the iron comes out of the furnace
